About Us

Mahanadi Golf Club (MGC) was founded in the year 1998 under the lead of Shri S N Sharma, the then Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) to foster and encourage golf in Odisha and to inculcate the spirit of sportsmanship amongst the members. Other aim and objective of the Club are:-

  • To help the members of the society to develop the ideals and standards for Farming, Family life, Community life, Citizenship, Leadership & Responsibilities.
  • To build up character and health
  • To inject discipline and self help.
  • To develop scientific and persevering attitude.
  • To participate in co-operative efforts.
  • To co-ordinate all the organizations with noble aims and objectives.

The MGC operates as an independent registered body and is a non profit association. The Club owes its existence to the vision and drive of the present CMD, MCL.

Over the years golf has become the centerpiece of attraction in MCL and is the prime recreational activities among its executives. Presently the Club has around 50 active members.

MGC takes pride in keeping the numbers of members at levels which ensure that one can almost always just turn up and play without a tee booking, except on a tournament day. Since there is limited number of Caddies in the roll of the club, it is better to come along with a Caddie to avoid disappointment.

The Club House – “The Hut” was built in 1998, which was later on extended in 2013.

The Club has in the past organized many tournaments like All India Public Sector Golf Tournaments, NCC East Zone Tournaments, CIL Inter Company Tournaments, MGMI President’s Golf Tournament etc. The club enjoys having frequent guests and visitors like Ex-Chairman, Coal India Ltd, Ex-CMDs of MCL, State Govt Officials. Till date this is the only golf club with 18 hole course in the state of Odisha.

Golfers of MGC have won many trophies in various tournaments organized in and outside Odisha.
